The brother of rap star Nicki Minaj was charged Thursday on Long Island for raping a 12-year-old child, a report said. Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned Thursday on first-degree rape for assaulting a pre-teen, according to news day Maraj was freed from the Nassau County jail in East Meadow on $100,000 bail today, the paper said. 

The Nassau County District Attorney was did not reveal any information about the case. Maraj was married to Jacqueline Robinson at the Coral House on Milburn Lake in Baldwin, NY. this past August. His pop star sister paid about $30,000 for the wedding hall which hosted 200 guests. “I would cross the ocean for u,” Minaj wrote on Instagram at the time along with a picture of herself and the groom. 

“I love my brother so much man. Can’t believe I cried during his wedding and his first dance like a punk. May God bless him and his union. Tonight has been one of my favorite nights of all time. I do anything to see my brothers smile.”

EFCC Arraigns Akpobolokemi, Ex-nimasa DG And Nine Others For Alleged N1.153bn Sc

 

Commission today December 3, 2015 arraigned a former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi; and seven other staff of the agency including Captain Eziekiel Agaba, Executive Director, and their two companies before Justice Salihu Sa’idu of the Federal High Court Lagos on a 30- count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraudulent conversion of funds and Money Laundering.

In a statement issued by Wilson Uwujaren Head, Media & Publicity of the commission made available to NewsWireNGR, Others are Ekene Nwakuche, Felix Bob-Nabena, Captain Warredi Enisuoh, Governor Amechee Juan, Ugo Frederick, Timi Alari, Alkenzo Limited and Penniel Engineering Services Limited

The accused persons allegedly conspired to convert and launder several sums of money running into billions of naira under the guise of providing security intelligence around the Maritime domain.

A committee on intelligence was established by the agency under the watch of Apobolokemi with the second accused person, Captain Agaba as chairman. The committee allegedly received a total sum of N1, 153,000,000 (One Billion, One Hundred and Fifty Three Million Naira Only) between December 2013 to July 2015.

In disbursing the sum, the accused persons allegedly conspired and hired companies which investigation revealed were neither registered nor have requisite capacity to provide such services.

Investigation further disclosed that most of the companies contracted were either nominated by the accused persons or are directly owned by them.

One of the counts read, “that you Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi, Captain Eziekiel Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Felix Bob-Nabena, Captain Warredi Enisuoh, Governor Amechee Juan, Ugo Frederick, Timi Alari, Alkenzo Limited and Penniel Engineering Services Limited on or about 20th of December 2013 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this court did conspire among yourselves to commit an offence to wit; conversion of the sum N1,153,000,000 (One Billion, One Hundred and Fifty Three Million Naira Only) property of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency which sum was derived from stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 18a of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act 2012 and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same Act”.

After listening to the charge, the accused persons pleaded not guilty. Prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo prayed the court to remand the accused person in prison and fix a date for trial.

Counsels representing the accused persons: Joseph Nwobike SAN for the first and forth accused persons, Lanre Olayinka for the second and ninth accused persons, Pascal Made for the third accused person, C.A Nmarkwe for the fifth accused, Kayode Omoya for the eighth accused, Ige Asemundara for the sixth accused and E.O Ogbebor for the seventh and tenth accused persons filed bail applications praying the court to admit their clients to bail.

In opposing the bail application for the first accused person, Oyedepo filed a counter affidavit praying the court not to grant the defendant’s application. He argued that the first defendant had jumped the administrative bail granted to him by the Commission. He further added that someone who could not honor administrative bail should not be trusted to honour bail granted by the court.

Oyedepo also told the court to refuse the bail applications of all the other accused persons based on the severity of the proof of evidence before it.

Justice Salihu however admitted the first accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000, 000 and two sureties. One of the sureties must have a landed property in either Lekki, Ikoyi or Victoria Island. The other surety must be in either Federal of State government employment not below the rank of Director.

The other accused persons were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000,000 each with one surety in like sum. One of the sureties must be in either Federal of State government employment not below level 16 and the other must have a landed property within Lagos.

Justice Salihu adjourned the case to January 29, 2016 for the commencement of trial and ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending perfection of their bail terms.

Rapper 2shotz and Wife, Precious Jones Split; Accuses Him Of Beating Her

 

Nigerian rapper 2Shotz has been accused by his wife Precious Jones of domestic violence. In a series of leaked WhatsApp messages between the rapper's wife and her friend, she narrates how the popular rapper laid his hands on her. 2Shotz started becoming violent was last year when he pushed his wife to the ground when she was in so much pain from a medical condition. Things got worse this year when he slapped her after he called her a wh*re in front of their daughter. A few weeks ago he threatened to take their daughter's passport so that she couldn't go back with her in Ireland. In the chat, she revealed that 2Shotz is not making any income and she is the one who has been footing his bills. 2 Shotz allegedly also said that he wants Precious Jones to be a 'furniture wife' who will just go out to events and not talk. Things got really bad when he started kicking, punching and beating her. The act of violence reportedly affected their daughter as 2Shotz mistakenly slapped her. Ghana’s fight against corruption has been dealt another setback after the country was ranked as the second most corrupt African nation behind South Africa. 

The corruption perception index by the Transparency International stated about 71 percent of people living in Ghana say corruption has increased over the last twelve months. 

Most governments across Africa are also seen as failing in their duty to stop the abuse of power, bribery and secret deals, according to the new opinion poll. 

In the report People and Corruption: Africa Survey 2015, part of the Global Corruption Barometer, Transparency International partnered with Afrobarometer, which spoke to 43,143 respondents across 28 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa between March 2014 and September 2015 to ask them about their experiences and perceptions of corruption in their country. 

The majority (58 per cent) of Africans in the surveyed countries, say corruption has increased over the past 12 months. In 18 out of 28 countries surveyed a large majority of people said their government is doing badly at fighting corruption. 

Despite these disappointing findings, the bright spots across the continent were in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Lesotho and Senegal. Citizens in these countries were some of the most positive in the region when discussing corruption. 

Ghana is closely followed by oil rich Nigeria making up the top three worst performing nations in the corruption index. 

For the first time, people reported business executives as highly corrupt.

Jos Wildlife Park Lion Killed

 

The lion which escaped from the premises of the Jos Wildlife Park, on Wednesday morning, has been killed.

Pandemonium rocked the Tudun Wada area of Jos North, as the lion escaped at about 8am while it was being fed.

Hours after the animal escaped from the wildlife park, it was killed by officials of the Operation Safe Haven.

Director of Press Affairs of Governor Simon Lalong, Emmanuel Nanle, confirmed the development, saying the lion was killed before it could harm anyone.

Nanle said, “Security men haunted the lion and killed it as soon as they were contacted. So people should go about their normal duties as there is no threat to their lives from the animal.”

Meanwhile, operators of the park disclosed that the lion was shot after it attempted to attack its rescuers.Hours after the animal escaped from the wildlife park, it was killed by officials of the Operation Safe Haven.

South Africa is the most corrupt country on the continent

South Africa is now believed to be the most corrupt country on the continent, according to a new survey.

The latest report by Transparency International sees South Africa top the list of countries where citizens believe the problem has got worse in the last year.

Over 80% of South Africans who were interviewed thought that corruption had increased over the last year. Ghana and Nigeria are some of the other worst-affected nations.

79% of South Africans surveyed also believe that not enough is being done to curb corruption. On the continent‚ the majority of Africans (58%) say that corruption has increased over the past year.

If there is one shining light to the survey it’s that 56% of South Africans surveyed believe that ordinary people can make a difference in the fight against corruption.

The survey found that 25% of respondents in SA believe that the most effective way for ordinary citizens to combat corruption is by reporting their experiences‚ followed by a further 22% who identified the refusal to pay bribes as an effective means to fight corruption.

With 43‚143 respondents, across 28 countries surveyed, people feel the police, business executives, government officials and the courts were all perceived as corrupt, with 75 million people estimated to have paid a bribe in the past year, AFP reports.

Between JZ pouring money into his Nkandla digs, Prasa’s dodgy trainsand countless of other scandals, South Africans aren’t exactly stoked about the state of affairs.

“People are outraged, they see this huge spending as part of government corruption,” David Lewis, director of Corruption Watch, a local anti-graft organisation, told AFP.

“Corruption creates and increases poverty and exclusion,” Transparency International head Jose Ugaz said in a statement.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have celebrated the arrival of their baby daughter and said they plan to donate 99 percent of their shares in the social media network to improving the world.

Mr Zuckerberg posted to the site this morning to celebrate the birth of daughter Max, and said the couple were committed to improving the world she will live in. 

"We are committed to doing our small part to help create this world for all children," Mr Zuckerberg wrote.  


"We will give 99 percent of our Facebook shares - currently about $45 billion - during our lives to join many others in improving this world for the next generation.

"Thank you to everyone in this community for all your love and support during the pregnancy. You've given us hope that together we can build this world for Max and all children."

Mr Zuckerberg also posted a letter to his newborn daughter, which highlighted the family's plan to "advance human potential" and "promote equality for all children in the next generation".

They detailed the development of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which included the revelation of their plans to donate all but one percent of their share fortune. 

"Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities," the letter reads. 

"We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues.

"But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others."

Mr Zuckerberg and Mrs Chan met at Harvard and began dating in 2003.

The pair married in May 2012.
