Legislative aides remove Melaye’s brother as chairman

A faction of the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum, on Sunday, claimed that it had removed Samuel Melaye, the younger brother of Senator Dino Melaye, as their chairman.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikashuwa, had on March 23 appointed and inaugurated the younger Melaye as the chairman of a seven-member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the group for three months before organising a proper election.

But a faction of NASSLAF in a communique made available to our correspondent on Sunday evening claimed that they had removed Melaye at a congress held last week Thursday within the National Assembly complex.

They also claimed to have constituted an electoral committee that would oversee the emergence of a new executive.

The communique signed by the Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, Lawson Oviasogie, read, “The National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum congress held and agreed on a set of recommendations and actions geared towards inaugurating  the electoral committee to conduct elections into the executive committee of the forum.

“Oladimeji Abimbola adopted the agenda of the Congress, after which nominations were received for a pro tem chairman to supervise the congress. Micheal Ola and Sikiru Bamidele were nominated but the latter graciously stepped down for the former to chair the congress after his nomination was validly affirmed through a voice vote.

“The chair spelt out modalities for the selection of members of the electoral committee and appeal committee. Part of the requirements was that nominations must be representatives of both chambers and each zone is to present two aides to serve on the committee.

“Names of electoral committee and appeal committee members, who were picked from all geopolitical zones in the country, were Paul Usenbo, Margaret Samuel, Valentine Akus, Mon- Charles Egbo, Femi Akanbi, Jide Solanke, Balarabe Gambo, Hyellakuri Malgwi, Isa Alhaji Isa, Suleiman Babajinro and Ishaya Natur Vangjen.”

The communique urged the younger Melaye to stop parading himself as chairman of the forum and make himself available for the election if he wished to lead the group.
